Cap Times holiday party

On December 13, the Cap Times threw a party to celebrate the holiday season and 105 years in publication. I was so pleased to provide the music and to play vintage polka records for the crowd.

Polka was a good choice for the occasion. The newspaper had endorsed the reelection of Governor Tony Evers who said to his campaign staff and supporters on election night, “let’s polka tonight and get back to work tomorrow.”

It’s my deepest hope that the joy and happiness in polka music is something Wisconsinites can unite around. We don’t have to agree on politics, but we all need a place where neighbors can gather and have fun. A while back, I wrote about the Dreadnaught’s manifesto to keep Polka alive and it’s all about how this community-centered dance music is what we need more of these days.

I promise to do my part to keep vintage polka spinning on the air waves and in community spaces. It’s our official state dance. It’s happy music. It’s polka time.
