Olbrich’s Cocktails in the Conservatory on January 20

We got the gang back together for a special night at Olbrich Botanical Gardens on Friday, January 20 for Cocktails in the Conservatory.

The night started off with vintage soul records by DJ Shotski. Grandma Cyd from WSUM-FM’s Heavy Petting Zoo came on next with some of her grooviest jazz and retro pop. With a quick switch from vinyl to digital, DJ Kayla Kush from WORT-FM’s 2Dub got a crowd of dancers to work. Wrapping up the night was Cooper Talbot from WORT-FM’s Her Infinite Variety who played classic R&B and Hip Hop songs people cheered for.

I kind of feel like we can’t top this one. The conservatory is such an earthy, warm oasis during the Wisconsin winter. There are even birds! Add some clubby lights and great music transforms the greenhouse into something even better. The vibe changed every hour, but the music was always fun, which was exactly what we aimed for. it was relaxing and invigorating at the same time.

The best part of the event was simply the camaraderie among the local lady DJs. When we all work together and bring our friends out for a great night, it’s a win win for the community and for community-supported radio.
