WVMO recognized by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association

On May 6, I joined fellow WVMO-FM volunteers at the annual Wisconsin Broadcasters Association awards event in Middleton, Wisconsin. The highlight of the event was being nominated for and receiving the Best Online Personality award (3rd place) along with fellow volunteer Scott Collins (2nd place).

I always thought it was a cliche when people said it was an honor to be nominated for an award. This experience helped me feel why those aren’t empty words. It’s truly an honor to have my WVMO peers and station leaders jump through all the hoops of the nomination and application process, and for the Friends of WVMO to sponsor my attendance at an event that celebrated the achievements of people who dedicate their lives and careers to journalism, community engagement, and entertainment we rely on in our local television and radio stations.

The biggest honor of the night was having WVMO get the best radio station in a large market award. That was a shared recognition for all the passion and dedication our station is built on. We call ourselves the “coolest little station in the nation” for a reason. We provide the community with so much good music and local announcements on a modest budget and 100 watts of power broadcast from a tiny office in Monona. It’s really unique and I’m proud to be among the volunteers who provide meaningful programming for the station.

Why the beret? The theme for the event was “An Evening in Paris.” I don’t need an excuse to bust out my red wool beret, but I’m glad I had a fun outfit for the occasion.

Thanks to the Harold-Independent for doing a writeup of WVMO’s awards.
