The Wedge Badger Game Day Party: Oktoberfest Style

Oktoberfest at The Wedge flyer

Huge thanks to Jacob and The Wedge for having me at their first Oktoberfest party. We threw a 5th quarter shindig after the Wisconsin Badgers beat Purdue on the gridiron. I’m especially glad to see friends who came for the polka vibes who were also first-timers at The Wedge.

DJ Shotski plays polka at The Wedge for a 5th Quarter Oktoberfest party

What is the 5th Quarter?

For Shotski Lodge readers who aren’t in Wisconsin, the 5th Quarter is what University of Wisconsin football fans lovingly refer to as the party at Camp Randall Stadium that happens at the end of a game. The marching band shows off their antics while playing lively tunes, including “Roll Out the Barrel (the Beer Barrel Polka),” the Budweiser Song, and the Chicken Dance to encourage fans to polka for post-game reverie (whether we won or not).

This video explains the 5th quarter, but at 3:18 hear longtime marching band leader Mike Leckrone explain why they used the Beer Barrel Polka as their first song to inspire crowd participation
